About Coach Jess

Hi there! I’m Coach Jess Dolbear and soccer is my passion.
I played soccer for the first time at 4 years old, then didn’t come back again until age 12. I haven’t put the ball down since. I firmly believe there’s a place for every player on the field- people come to soccer at all different ages and stages.

Soccer Is A Family Affair

Over the years playing at our local AYSO region, my sister and I got to enjoy our dad coaching when volunteers were needed. He, in turn, got me volunteering to referee to develop as a player. That was
my introduction to an entire extended family of volunteers whose love for the game had them setting goals up at dawn and picking cones up in the dark so the next generation of soccer lovers could enjoy
the game. Right away, I wanted to be a part of that soccer family.

That soccer family has given me an amazing soccer experience. I started coaching at age 15, while still playing and reffing, to get even more soccer- hitting up to five games in a Saturday. I continued playing, coaching, and refereeing during college and as an adult. My husband and I connected through our mutual love of the game and we got our baby name off of a La Liga roster. These days I spend my days at the field coaching youth soccer, cheering my husband on in his adult league, playing fútbol with my son, and reffing with my father. Throughout all of this I’ve connected with more people and learned more than I could have ever imagined when I signed up for that AYSO team at 12 years old.

In addition to all of the benefits of playing for your growing player, soccer is your opportunity to build connection within your family and with the greater soccer family around you. The support you put in
comes back tenfold. Soccer is often called The Beautiful Game and one of the most beautiful parts is thefamily we build with our team, our club, and other fans all around the world.

Coaching for Development

Over the years, I’ve coached every age from 3-18 (specializing in ages 3-7) and enjoyed getting on the field with kids, training new coaches, and building programs with the aim of helping kids develop year
over year, not just to the end of this season. I’ve seen what soccer looks like at different ages, different styles of play, and different levels of competition. I believe the key to coaching kids for development is
to understand where a player is going on their soccer journey so that you can help them build a path that meets their goals.

Coaching for development looks beyond whether a five year old can kick more goals than another five year old today. Coaching to develop the player means coaching that five year old to love the game and
build their skills so that they can grow to be an eight year old, twelve year old, sixteen year old, adult who has the confidence and ability to enjoy soccer.

Hands-down the best part of coaching at SoCal Youth Sports is sharing a love for the game that continues to bring us all out to the field. We’re developing our young players to have a lifelong relationship with the beautiful game. I can’t wait to have you out on the field with us.
