Nike Soccer Camp at Montrose Community Park: Camp Recap, World Cup Drama, Awards and a Brilliant Week of Soccer

Nike Soccer Camp at Montrose Community Park | June 22 to June 26, 2026

What a week.

Our Nike Soccer Camp at Montrose Community Park brought together a brilliant group of players for five days of soccer, learning, competition, friendships, goals, saves, quizzes, prizes and plenty of World Cup drama.

This camp had everything we love about youth soccer. Players tried new things, made new friends, solved problems in games, showed bravery, supported each other and grew throughout the week.

From our NanoSoccer games and electives to the penalty shootout, World Cup games, kids vs coaches street soccer and Friday awards, it was a fantastic example of what camp should feel like for kids.

At SoCal Youth Sports, our camps are designed around more than just keeping players busy. We want every child to play more, think more, decide more and enjoy the game more.

That means using small-sided games, 1v1 moments, game-based challenges and carefully designed activities that meet players where they are.

Less standing. Less waiting. More playing.

Day-by-Day Camp Highlights

Monday and Tuesday: NanoSoccer, Camp Shirt Day and Building the Week

Monday and Tuesday gave players the chance to settle into camp, meet their coaches, get to know each other and begin working through our NanoSoccer camp curriculum.

Rather than simply putting players into teams and running traditional drills, we focused on helping each camper develop as an individual inside the game.

Players explored 1v1s, small-sided games, decision making, scanning, attacking and defending moments, and problem solving in realistic game situations. The goal was to support each player’s game intelligence in a fun, research-informed environment that transfers back into the full game.

At camp, we are not making teams. We are trying to meet players where they are, help them understand the game better and create more opportunities for them to make decisions, solve problems and grow in confidence.

Tuesday was also camp shirt day, which brought even more colour and energy to the week. It is always one of our favourite moments seeing campers proudly wearing their camp shirts while playing, learning and competing together.

Monday to Thursday: Camp Electives

From Monday to Thursday, campers also took part in electives designed to give them extra focus in areas they were excited about.

Advanced 1v1s with Coach Celine gave players the chance to explore attacking and defending moments through competitive games, points, pressure and decision making.

Shooting with Coach Matt focused on finishing in game-like situations, with scenarios that encouraged quick decisions, creativity and confidence in front of goal.

Goalkeeping with Coach Andy gave goalkeepers the chance to work on saves, reactions, bravery, positioning and game-based goalkeeping moments.

These sessions were not old-school isolated skill drills. They were thoughtful, modern and carefully implemented sessions built around games, problems, points and realistic scenarios.

Wednesday: Penalty Shootout and Big Goalkeeping Moments

Wednesday brought one of the biggest camp traditions: the penalty shootout.

There were some excellent penalties, but the goalkeepers deserve a massive shoutout too. We saw brave saves, quick reactions and some brilliant moments in goal as players battled their way through the competition.

A special mention goes to Coach Celine’s group, where the penalty shootout went all the way to sudden death. That is exactly the kind of camp drama the kids remember.

Congratulations to our penalty shootout winners: Max, Nicholas, Roy and Christopher.

And a big well done to our runners-up: Harper, Olivia, Mags, Mateo, Dani, Liam, Toma and Julia.

Thursday and Friday: NanoSoccer World Cup

Thursday and Friday were all about the NanoSoccer World Cup.

The atmosphere was amazing. We had hard-fought 1v1s, loads of goals, great skills, big saves, team spirit, dramatic score swings and a competition that went all the way down to the final game of camp and the final spirit points.

The little ones’ 1v1 World Cup games brought some of the best drama of the week. Every goal mattered, every save mattered and every point helped push the teams closer to the title.

We also loved seeing the players watching real World Cup games, taking part in World Cup quizzes, and bringing that tournament energy into camp.

By Friday, the World Cup had become everything we hoped it would be: competitive, chaotic, fun, emotional and full of brilliant soccer moments.

Camp World Cup Captains and Vice Captains

A huge well done to our World Cup captains and vice captains.

These players played a key role in one of the most important moments of camp. Stepping into leadership positions is a big stretch for many of our older players, and this is exactly where we aim to push comfort zones in a positive and supportive way. Being a captain at camp is not just about leading on the field, it is about communication, responsibility, empathy and setting the standard for others.

Throughout the week, these players embodied the 4Cs of the SoCal program: Courageousness, Creativity, Curiosity and Character. They encouraged teammates, helped solve problems during games, supported younger players and showed resilience in both winning and losing moments.

This is a perfect example of our belief that “Great People Make Great Players.” By developing leadership, teamwork and strong personal values, we are helping players grow not just as soccer players, but as people.

World Cup Results and Champions

NanoSoccer World Cup: Captains, Comebacks, Drama and Final Results

Thursday and Friday were all about the NanoSoccer World Cup.

This is always one of the biggest moments of camp, and this week absolutely delivered. The atmosphere was amazing from start to finish, with hard-fought 1v1s, loads of goals, brilliant skills, big saves, team spirit, dramatic score swings and a competition that went all the way down to the final game of camp and the final spirit points.

The World Cup is one of the clearest examples of why we love NanoSoccer. In the smaller formats, every player matters. Every touch matters. Every decision matters. Players get more opportunities to attack, defend, score, save, recover, compete, support teammates and solve problems in real game situations.

For the younger players, the 1v1 World Cup games brought some of the best drama of the week. Every goal changed the energy. Every save felt huge. Every point helped push the teams closer to the title.

We also loved seeing the players watching real World Cup games, taking part in World Cup quizzes and bringing that tournament energy into camp. The kids vs coaches street soccer games added even more fun, noise and personality to the week.

World Cup Halfway Standings

At the halfway point, Canada had taken the lead, Mexico were close behind, and USA had some work to do.

Halfway Standings

  1. Canada: 625 points

  2. Mexico: 600 points

  3. USA: 575 points

The Story Behind the Comeback

The halfway table made the final result even better.

Canada had built a strong lead, Mexico were pushing hard, and USA were sitting in third place. But the energy across the final day completely changed the story.

USA came storming back through strong performances, big 1v1 moments, goals, saves and team spirit. Canada kept battling all the way to the end, Mexico stayed right in the race, and the whole competition came down to the last game of camp and the final spirit points.

That is exactly what we want from the NanoSoccer World Cup. Competitive, chaotic, fun, emotional and full of brilliant soccer moments.

Final World Cup Results

After trailing at the halfway point, USA completed the comeback and won the camp World Cup by just 30 points.

Canada finished second after an incredible week, and Mexico were right there too, only 40 points off the top.

Final Results

  1. USA: 1340 points

  2. Canada: 1310 points

  3. Mexico: 1300 points

Congratulations to Team USA, and a massive well done to Canada and Mexico for making it such a close and exciting competition.

Standout World Cup Moments

Every camp World Cup has its own story, and this one had plenty.

One of the bravest moments of the week came from Liam, who made an amazing goal-saving save with his face. It was one of those wild camp moments that sums up the speed, chaos and bravery of small-sided soccer.

It does not matter how you save them, just keep them out.

We also saw newer players like Liam and Russell grow into the week, gain confidence and show real improvement. That is one of the best parts of camp. Players arrive at different levels, with different needs and different experiences, and our job is to help each child find their way into the game.

The captains showed great character throughout the week, the younger players brought incredible drama to their 1v1 games, and the whole camp embraced the World Cup atmosphere with quizzes, games, goals, saves, celebrations and plenty of noise.

By Friday, the World Cup had become everything we hoped it would be: competitive, exciting, player-led, full of learning and packed with moments the kids will remember.
