We have a private class for our pod of 4 year olds and we started when they were all 3. Coach Matt has always been patient and great even in the beginning when the 3 year olds were scattered everywhere. And now that they're 4 and have been taking class for a year the difference is so amazing to see. The staff is friendly. At age 3, my son was new to soccer and pretty timid on the field. Coach Matt is so amazing with kids; he got to know my son and to understand his personality, and he quickly figured out how to bring my son out if his shell. My son is now 4 years old, and it just makes me so happy to watch him get out on the field and have fun! So Cal Youth Sports provides a well rounded experience and a very nurturing environment. My daughter loves going to her soccer class and enjoy the jamboree competitions on Saturday every few months.Posted on GoogleLaifun Chung14 August 2026For over 3 decades, I have followed my children, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren in youth soccer in 4 different countries, USA, Canada, England, Bulgaria. As I was watching the 5 year olds today, I realized that I have never seen so much footwork and activity between players. Usually the young ones swarm around in a huddle following the ball. I was extremely impressed that ALL the children were running and playing with a ball. This is the best soccer program I have ever observed. I can feel their sense of achievement and joy of participation. Also Kudos to the coaches. I was standing behind a parent “ coaching” from the sidelines. The young coach, said to the parent, ” just a reminder, we only use positive words, please don’t talk to the players”. The parent gave a thumbs up in acknowledgement. Not only have her soccer skills flourished, but so has her confidence and sportsmanship. Coach Matt not only focuses on soccer skills, but all of the other skills important to learning how to be successful in team sports. He and his other coaches are amazing with kids of all ages. It reminds me of a Montessori philosophy but for soccer. He really learns about each kid as individuals, meeting them where they are at, and helping them to the next level. Whether that’s a soccer skill (or just focusing for the new kid who needs to learn to pay attention first, or how to pay attention to your teammate too). It’s a blast. It’s so fun to watch and we enjoy hanging on the sidelines with the other parents too. It’s amazing how far my daughter has come soccer skill Wise in such a fun, age-appropriate way. And when my daughter had a hard time with confidence and there were some tears a few weeks in a row, Coach Matt was a rock star with her. He was warm but also gently moved her those tests quickly back to game and teaching her it’s about the journey and that challenging herself is a cool thing. Highly recommend!
