Parent Tip of the Week: Why Standing in Lines Does Not Help Young Players
Young players learn best when they are active, involved, and making decisions.
In many traditional sessions, kids spend too much time waiting in lines for one turn at a drill. That might look organized, but it often means less movement, fewer touches, and less real learning.
At SoCal Youth Sports, we use smaller groups, active games, and Nano Sided Games to keep players involved. Instead of waiting, players are playing. Instead of being told what to do every time, they are solving problems, making choices, and building confidence through the game.
Why this matters:
- More touches help players improve faster.
- More movement keeps kids engaged.
- More decisions help players understand the game.
- More play makes children want to come back.
Families can support this at home too. Simple games like Slam, Crossbar Challenge, target scoring games, or letting kids create their own scoring challenges can all help players build confidence while keeping practice fun.
