Weekend Soccer Games Cancelled Due to Extreme Heat | October 3–4

Weekend soccer games cancelled due to extreme heat: Pasadena PYSL on Saturday October 3 and Glendale GYSL on Sunday October 4.

SOCAL YOUTH SPORTS • WEEKEND UPDATE

A weekend off the field. Our players come first.

Our weekend soccer games are cancelled due to extreme heat: Pasadena Youth Soccer League on Saturday, October 3, 2026, and Glendale Youth Soccer League on Sunday, October 4, 2026. This applies to every age group and game time in both leagues.

Please do not travel to Willard Elementary for Saturday’s PYSL games or Glorietta Park for Sunday’s GYSL games.

Weekend soccer games cancelled: why we are taking a break

We know how much the children look forward to match day, and we know families build their weekends around it. This is a disappointing change, but their wellbeing comes first.

The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning covering the weekend. Its current forecasts show highs near 99°F in Pasadena on both days and 99–101°F near Glendale. With temperatures forecast to rise through the morning toward 100°F, we are cancelling all league games, including the earliest kickoffs.

Our child-first approach includes knowing when to take a break. This weekend, that means keeping our players, families and coaches off the field.

Five easy ways to enjoy soccer at home

There is no training homework this weekend. Rest is welcome! If your child wants a little soccer fun, try one of these in a cool indoor space. Keep it gentle, use a soft ball or rolled-up socks, and clear a safe space away from breakables.

  1. Sock-ball two-goal game: Put two small “goals” at opposite ends of a clear space. Play a gentle 1v1 with rolled-up socks. Let your child choose the rules and invent ways to score.
  2. Choose your gate: Make two or three gates with soft cushions. A parent guards one gate while the child chooses another to roll the ball through. Swap roles and let them outsmart you.
  3. Design your dream team: Draw a crest, design a kit and give the team a name. Add yourself to the lineup!
  4. Build a mini stadium: Use paper, cardboard or building blocks to create a field, stands and a scoreboard. Toy figures can play the match.
  5. Become a commentator: Watch a short highlight clip and let your child describe the action. Celebrate a clever pass, a brave attempt or a teammate helping someone up.

Let their curiosity lead. Five happy minutes are plenty, and taking the whole weekend off is absolutely fine.

Swap the sidelines for the sofa: soccer to watch

Choose a match, get comfortable and enjoy the game together. You do not need to watch all 90 minutes. Here are a few weekend options, including LA’s Angel City FC.

Watch the game through your child’s eyes

Let your child pick a player to follow for a few minutes. Where do they move when they do not have the ball? How do they find space? What happens after a mistake?

A simple “What did you enjoy?” can start a lovely conversation. Keep it relaxed, and let them cheer, wonder and enjoy being a fan.

What happens next?

Please check your league email and our usual updates for further scheduling information. This cancelled game week will be made up at the tail end of the season. We will share the confirmed make-up dates and game times separately. We will continue monitoring the heat before upcoming sessions.

Thank you for your understanding and for helping us put the children first. Stay cool, enjoy some family time, and we look forward to seeing everyone back on the field when conditions allow.
